the starting base salary for an mta worker is $52,644.
the starting base salary for a NYC school teacher?

and just so we have a clear picture here...
teachers educate our children.
MTA workers operate trains and give LOUSY customer service.
and they are being given the power to shut down the city because they want to make twice what teachers make.
teachers are educated with at the very least, a bachelors degree and the caveat that they finish their accreditation.
MTA workers are required to have a GED (and before any panties get bunched...there is NOTHING wrong with a GED. It's better than no high school diploma at all. But that does not a masters degree equal).
and i would like to see who else gets paid over 50k to do this ?

the starting salary for a NYC cop is $25,100 a year ($32,700 after six months)
and A NYC firefighter's starting salary is the same as a cop, at $25,100.
THESE people get shot at and risk their lives for PENNIES.
did THEY go on strike when their contracts expired?
No.
they worked it out through long negotiations
while they kept working.
that's what grown ups do.

And?!?!?
I PAID $2 to do it.
At least they are GETTING paid.
Even the ITWU has a problem with this strike, thinking it was premature and not in good faith.
I would love to get paid that much without a college education and I'm sure that there are some teachers in this city who would kill to get that kind of gig.
I have to clean my own desk at work and god forbid the copier gets a paper jam. I have to sometimes fix that too.
