letters to the editor Atlanta Constitution Journal
I couldn't decide if i should be upset about the fact that ridiculous people
are making a big deal about an innocent but obviously mischievous kiss, or
should i be upset that the editor of this paper decided that it was an
important enough 'news item' that there had to be a photograph and then
because ridiculous people making a fuss, he apologizes.
First of all, the piece was not worthy of front page news. It was the MTV
Music Awards. There are people dying every day all over the world and this is
what your newspaper decides is worthy of front page coverage. It seems to me
that it was placed purposefully to shock people and sell more papers and when
instead, it back fired, he apologized and acted like it was a mistake in
judgement.
But the thing that i am most angry about is the comparison of that kiss to
graphic war photos. How dare you? People are being slaughtered and you DARE to
compare it to two people kissing on TV for shock value?
I am completely appalled.
The New York Times gave this one half line of printing ink. It wasn't that
important, even in the context of the awards show. Certainly, if they had,
they wouldn't apologize. It is obvious that this paper has a lot to learn
about savvy and professionalism.
